Photo of the Day: Smiling Girl Going to Summer Camp

Monday, August 27th, 2007

The first job I ever got paid for as a photographer was to take photos of kids saying goodbye to their parents before heading off to summer camp. You know me: big money, high profile.

This girl was a natural poser. I can’t recall ever having seen someone so relaxed while getting her photo made.

I took this picture of a bunch of happy culé hooligans near Plaça Universitat in Barcelona after Barça won the Champions League in 2006.

Photo of the Day: Cool Drummer Kid

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

One great thing about the Fiestas de Gràcia are the drum groups roaming from street to street, usually attracting crowds that follow them around the entire neighborhood.

This kid was playing in one such group that had come down from France to play in the festival. He kind of reminds me of Larry Mullen Jr. of U2, so I tried to give the photo an Achtung Baby feel with high contrast and faux cross-processing.

Photo of the Day: Man and Dragon in Barcelona Street Festival

Another photo from the Fiestas de Gràcia in Barcelona, just before the correfocs in Plaça Rius i Taulet.

I think this guy was confused by what the dragon was telling him to do.

Photo of the Day: Spanish Music Man at Cathedral in Barcelona

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

A gentleman cuts a very respectable tune on his clarinet so that people in Plaça Nova can dance sardanes, which 9 of 10 Catalans agree is one of the silliest dances ever. (But hey, we does it and we loves it.)
