Photo of the Day: Boys Hanging Out at the Beach
Wednesday, August 29th, 2007I think these were French kids on vacation in Spain at L’Escala, one of those summer-house towns on the Costa Brava in between Barcelona and the French border. Tourists from France were there en masse on holiday, and though we couldn’t find a supermarket anywhere near the center, there was at least one real estate agency on every corner.
This photo was taken in the afternoon (hence the hard shadows) on the boardwalk of Riells Beach.
Photo of the Day: Girl on the Beach in L’Escala
Tuesday, August 28th, 2007I was walking in the paths that run behind the beach in L’Escala taking landscape photos of the weird pine trees they have there when this girl crossed my path in a hurry to get suntan lotion to her poor mother roasting on the beach. Having trained as a street photographer in Barcelona, I focused my camera with a gunslinger’s speed and caught this surreal shot.
Note the girl doing a handstand in the background.
POTD: Silvia at Red Rock
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007I found these giant rocks on the beach while walking around near Montgat, I believe. We brought a bit of cheer to the lonely fishermen there bored out of their gourds.

POTD: Badalona Boats
Saturday, August 4th, 2007One of my more abstract images.
A few years back I was in the habit of taking three- or four-hour walks from my apartment in Gràcia to Vila Olímpica and then down the length of the beach well past Badalona until I almost felt too tired to walk back. A lot of times I did this at night, starting around 11 p.m. or so. I was out of work, writing a screenplay for the best detective film ever, getting up at three in the afternoon and doping myself with black tea.
This shot appears to have been taken in the early evening, somewhere between Badalona and Masnou on a strip of beach where everyone dumps their banged-up old fishing boats.
